THE QUERY LETTER

If you want to be taken seriously as a writer, it is important to learn to write a good query letter. Here are some guidelines for your query letter:

  • Write it to a person, not ‘To Whom it May Concern.’ Word|Link is a small enough organization that if you send it to the wrong agent, that individual will know who to forward it to.
  • Keep it brief. One short paragraph to introduce yourself and your work; a second short paragraph to give us the gist of your manuscript, its genre, and your intended audience; and a final short paragraph to give us some background on your writing experience.
  • Make it professional in appearance. Format it as if it were a letter, not a text message, and then email it to us at literaryrep@wordlinkusa.com.
  • Please do not attach or embed sample chapters or synopses.
