WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
The types of literature we are interested in may vary with the times; but,
in general, we look for the very best in:
- Action/thrillers. We expect plots that keep pages turning and have
lots of unexpected twists.
- Murder mysteries. If we can figure out “whodunit” before the
last ten pages, do another rewrite.
- Historical fiction. We are college graduates, students of history, and
sticklers for details. Make sure you do your research.
- Military fiction. Our agent in this genre was a career military man; so
again, make sure you do your research.
- Science fiction. We want to see stories driven by solidly developed characters and and compelling plots rather than by gadgets, monsters, and intergalactic forces. Think Andre Norton, Robert Heinlein, and Ursula K. Le Guin.
- Women’s fiction. We are looking for high-quality contemporary and historical
novels with sound characterization and well-developed, believable plotlines
that appeal to female readers.
- Young adult fiction. We're a bit weary of fantasy. We'd like to see captivating realistic stories with depth and suspense.
- Middle grade fiction. We appreciate novels for younger readers that have
adventure, humor, and endearing, relatable characters.
- General fiction. If it’s original, thought provoking, and engrossing
but doesn’t quite fit into any one specific genre, we’d like
to see it.
- Nonfiction. If you are a specialist in your field, we’re interested;
but make sure it has the page-turning elements of good fiction as well.
